About Goonawarra Health Services

Goonawarra Medical Centre (GMC) has been operating since 1982 when Dr.  Mahinda Samararatna and his wife Charmaine established the practice and started consulting at 2 The Lakes Drive, Sunbury.   They subsequently developed and moved  to 1-11 Dornoch Drive, Sunbury in 1997.


There are currently 11 General Practitioners and a well-established Diabetic Clinic with an Endocrinologist, Diabetic Educator, Dietitian and Podiatry Clinic.

Cardiac Centre, Mental Health Clinic, Audiology services, Pathology Collection Centre, Pharmacy and Dental Clinic.

We continually strive to improve our services and we value your feedback.



The Centre also has medical students intake from Monash and Melbourne Universities for the rural component of their program. Senior Practitioners help prepare its General Practitioners towards their fellowship -FRACGP.

The Centre also assists ‘overseas trained doctors’ to prepare for both the MCQ and Clinical Examinations.

Practitioners have been or are currently involved in industrial bodies such as:

1  Member – Victorian Tertiary Assessment Co-ordinator (Australian graduates GP training) ;

2  Member Professional Services Review Panel;

3  Member –Accreditation for GPA;

4 Examiner RuralWorkforce AgencyVictoria.

5 Registered with Melbourne University to examine MBBS students.



The Centre is Registered with Victorian Medical Alliance and can accept Fourth Year General Practice Registrar’s.



The Goonawarra Medical Centre is accredited by GPA  Accreditationplus (4th Edition). We are certified against ISO 9001 and full accreditation against the National Safety & Quality Health Services Standards (NSQHSS)
